KU klux klan

Created on December 24th, 1865 by six confederate veterans in Pulaski, Tennessee. Their main goal was to restore white supremacy. They used public acts of violence against African Americans to get their point across. Such acts included burning of houses, churches, crosses, and massive accounts of murder. They left bodies in the streets to show dominance.
Connections to Today:
the KKK has grown to be more than just one clan. Today there are hundreds of branches of the KKK spread out all around the country; some international. Not all branches are all white supremacy. Groups consist of hatred towards African Americans, Jews, and homosexuals. Many are known as neo-nazi groups now.
Confederate General Nathan Bedford Forrest (shown in picture at left) became "Grand Wizard" - The Klan's national leader.
