Panic of 1873
Many investors put their money down at the beginning of the Reconstruction Era on railroad companies. However, many railroad companies shut their doors, causing a huge economic panic. Many businessmen wanted an easy solution demanding greenbacks papers that aren't supported by gold. Grant finally sided with these men and started printing more Greenbacks. Southern blacks suffered greatly from the depression.
